The Elgin Murals - Just the  Beginning

Last spring my neighbor asked if I would help the Elgin Girl Scout Troop get their art badge.  Sure!  I went to a couple of meetings and they completed what they needed for their badges. Then one of the Girl Scout leaders asked if I would help the girls get their community service awards by helping them paint a mural in the park.  Sure!  I didn't think about it (until after I'd said yes...).

The girls primed the building, and we got started.  About 15 girls, ages 10 and 11 participated.  We used professional mural paints, and the mural is protected with two coats of UV resistant varnish. At times there were girls painting on all 4 sides of the building.

Sometimes it seemed there was more paint on the girls than on the walls, but we did it!  (I did sneak over a few times with no girls around to work on the horses,)

The building is the concession stand in the park, for events and festivals.

More murals to come.  Two of my designs were just chosen for murals in Bastrop, Texas.  And I'm planning more in Elgin.
